The Ruins of Pirita Monastery in Tallinn

Here are some pictures from the ruins of Pirita Monastery in Tallinn from the last autumn.

The monastery was found 1407 and it soon became the largest monastery in Livonia. The monastery was destroyed in 1577 by Ivan the Terrible.

The meadows around the monastery are very serene. On a nearby hill there is location of an old chapel that predates the founding of the monastery.

Most of the old cellars and tunnels under the monastery are sealed, but one of the gates was left unlocked.

Here is also a video of an Estonian folk-metal band Metsatöllplaying at the ruins.
